Feeling adrift as she nears the end of grad school in Boston, Bike America’s feckless heroine Penny embarks on a cross-country bike trip to see if she can find a more suitable place to call home. Who can relate? With her boyfriend (labels? ... eek!) Todd trying to track her down and Penny welcoming each mile she gets further from her old life, her companions on the ride try to understand who she is and what she is searching for. Her fellow riders (Rorie and Annabel the badass activists seeking to get married in every state they hit on the trip; Ryan, the health nut biking instructor whose past was anything but; Tim Billy, the only one actually riding for cancer?; and the mysterious and wise Man with the Van who carries their stuff) each see a side of her - and occasionally more - that they weren’t anticipating when the ride began.
If each of the cities on the journey is a bachelor and Penny’s the bachelorette, this play is a rose ceremony like no other.
