The submission window has now closed. The plays selected to be workshopped this spring will be announced around March 1.
DC-AREA PLAYWRIGHT SCRIPT SUBMISSION OPPORTUNITY DETAILS
We will be accepting submissions for our new works series, FOREWORD, beginning Sunday, January 1, 2023.
SCRIPT SUBMISSION OPPORTUNITY
**PAID OPPORTUNITY**
We will be selecting three (3) new plays to be workshopped in person, at our Arlington, VA rehearsal space, in April and May 2023. The submission window will open on Sunday, January 1, 2023, and close on Sunday, January 15, 2023, or when we reach the threshold of 250 scripts submitted. Scripts will be reviewed by a team of readers and the three plays selected to be workshopped will be announced on or about March 1, 2023.
Here at Prologue Theatre, we believe that devoting time and resources to new works give us a chance to have timely conversations - to think and talk about the artwork as it relates to our current lives and our history, regardless of its subject matter. We know that the developmental process is vital to creating these conversations around new plays. Without a solid workshop process, new plays end up being created in a vacuum, without the opportunity for artistic collaboration that challenges and enhances the work—and the conversations it creates.
We employ a blind initial review process to avoid unintentional bias on the part of our team of qualified readers. Scripts that move into the semi-final round will be reviewed by the team who will have access to all information regarding the submitted play.
There is an $11 submission fee that supports producing all aspects of FOREWORD including the selection process and stipends paid to, playwrights, performers, and production team members for each workshop. Scholarships are available - see The Fine Print section below for details and how to apply.
Prologue Theatre is committed to staffing and casting our productions with equality, diversity, and inclusion at the forefront of the process. BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ playwrights are highly encouraged to apply.
