2020 also ushered in a renewed season of learning and confronting the past and present racism in our nation and community. We recommitted to the work of listening and learning and dedicated time to the work of anti-racism and anti-oppression in our organization. Here are some recommendations from our ongoing journey:
  • Learn from Center for Urban and Racial Equity, The Washington Area Women’s Foundation, and Advancement Project
  • Read Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All by Martha S. Jones, Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas, Black Buck by Mateo Askaripour, and Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man by Emmanuel Acho (or check out his youtube videos)
  • Listen to Code Switch, The Stoop, and The United States of Anxiety

While we have not yet put the effects of the pandemic behind us, we are still hopeful for our return to in-person productions in 2022!
